Toronto-based Dora and Gemini award-winning writer/director/performer/musician/educator who has worked in five languages on five continents, and who Entertainment Weekly called “one of the 100 most creative people alive today”.
Founder and creative director of WYRD Productions, and co-creative director of Kidoons.
As a Director:
Miller’s two degrees in architecture and his skills as a multi-disciplinary artist have given him a unique vision as a theatre director. Having mentored with some of Canada’s finest theatre creators (Robert Lepage and Daniel Brooks, notably), he has learned to balance rigorous craft with playful theatricality. Whether directing himself in a solo show, or a large company in a musical, Miller uses the same spirit of innovation and collaboration with designers. Each project offers him a chance to stimulate a new generation of theatregoers by playing to their innate love of creativity, their embrace of technological wonder, and their desire to engage with compelling stories.
As a Theatre Performer:
Miller’s theatre career began playing Murderer #2 in a Shakespeare-in-the-park production of Macbeth in Montreal. That small part inspired him to create his first solo show, MacHomer, which premiered at the Montreal Fringe in 1995 and ran for 17 years. Since then, he’s become one of Canada’s most versatile stage performers, with credits ranging from classical theatre to avant-garde creation, from solo shows to collective ensembles. He has performed his own work in over 200 cities around the world, including almost every major theatre in Canada. Of his many accolades, he’s particularly proud of his Dora awards for Bigger Than Jesus, including Best Performance.
